More About Audrey Conrad Farrier Service

My Story

If there were one way to summarize my life it would be HORSES HORSES HORSES! My mother and my grandfather are responsible for my ongoing love affair with horses and all things equine. With my parent's support I was one of those lucky kids who had the opportunity as a toddler to be blessed with having horses be an every day aspect of my life. The instinctual passion of a life with horses only grew stronger with every passing year. In my 20's I was afforded the opportunity to get a more hands on experience in the artistic and yet rugged world of farriery. After a couple years as a farrier's apprentice I completed the farrier course at Cornell University and graduated that program in December 2006. Blessings were bountiful as my education at Cornell was provided by none other than the brilliant and pioneering farrier Michael Wildenstein CJF FWCF. One of the most unique aspects about farrier school at Cornell University was the proximity and collaboration with the Veterinary Clinic and School. As a student you are afforded numerous opportunities to witness unique cases of lameness in horses and other quadrupeds. Upon receipt of my certificate of completion from the Cornell University Farrier Science Program I immediately struck out on my own and have officially been in business since January 1, 2007. The road thus far has been fascinating, frustrating and unbelievably rewarding. There is no better education than real world experience. Perhaps one of the most frequent questions I am asked is why I chose to become a farrier. Truth be told when I was a high school student I was set on becoming the worlds best horse trainer, for no other reason than to contribute towards making a difference for the animals that so defined my life. Years later and a number of horse management jobs later I realized my desire to help horses could be done through farrier work. Where so much of a horse's life and it's comfort and longevity depends on the health of it's hooves I could think of no better way to help these animals I respect so much. While I have no desire to conquer the world, I strive every day to do the very best for each and every horse I see, as though they were my very own, and that mind set has not only kept me humble but open to change and progress. With the support and blessings of my husband Chuck, I am able to devote so much time and energy towards the advancements of my own education and the services I can provide to my local horse community here in the Upper Valley of New Hampshire.

Heidi Jo Hauri-Gill

"I can't even remember how long I have been so fortunate to have Audrey Conrad as my farrier, but it is a very long time, maybe 15 years? When I first met her, fairly new out of school and eager, she and I had an introductory meeting, I told her what I do, that I have typically about 35 horses that need to be cared for, usually about 20 of them my own, that they come in tough and that is how I like to buy horses because it lets me take some wonderful souls that have been around the block a bit and give them the best new start ever. That usually meant starting at their feet. I told her that I had these horses to do a job, teach. They couldn't do that if they were lame or uncomfortable, and that I needed someone who was willing to dive deep and help me make and then keep horses sound. I also had competition horses who needed to train daily in order to accomplish the goals their riders and I had set for them. She told me that she would be willing to come once a week, that she would like to keep her numbers of horses done in a day at one farm to about 3-5, and that she would be prompt, and would expect the same from me. She promised to keep me informed about things that I could do to help her job, and I promised to do that homework-on all of the horses. We decided to start with a few, of course they were straight forward uncared for green or not green horses. We took before pictures. We took after pictures. She ROCKED IT. I was so excited about the changes she started to show on the horses after the first time working on them but that was minimal compared to the changes that showed after a number of times, or a number of years. What Audrey did to my farm in keeping horses sound from newborn, to 30 year old school horses, to my Grand Prix dressage horse who she worked on since he was 4 was incredible. Audrey is one of the most gifted farriers I have ever worked with in NH, MA all of the way down to FL. She cares about each horse, puts her heart into each horse, and kept my school running! She is never afraid to take her work home with her, research what she hasn't seen yet, learn, use her experience and education and all to benefit even my most common of schoolies because that horse is a soul, and she identifies with them. On top of all of that, she was always at the farm with a smile and a 'Good Morning' to me and my clients."

Collaboration

Next Level Service

One of my greatest attributes is my willingness to work side by side with your vet, trainer, and other bodywork specialists. Where we as a team can design the best supportive and protective measures for the whole health of your horse.

Corrective and Therapeutic Farriery

Support for your horse's various needs

No horse has text book conformation, so I feel it's a little misleading to categorize any one horse's needs as being therapeutic or corrective. The good news is if your horse needs specific shoeing, I've got them covered and am always happy to learn and modify their needs as they arise.
